The Louisiana Conference on Water Supply, Sewerage, and Industrial Wastes, Inc. is the State Operator Association for Water and Wastewater professionals.  The Louisiana Conference has eight (8) regions statewide.  The Southeast Section is comprised of Jefferson Parish, Orleans Parish, Plaquemines Parish, and St. Bernard Parish.

The Louisiana Conference conducts a Water Taste and Wastewater Beauty Contest annually at their Short Course in March.  The entries are judged on appearance, color, odor, and clarity.  After the judging is completed, the water samples are analyzed for pH and Total Dissolved Solids, and the wastewater samples are analyzed for pH and Dissolved Oxygen by Hach.  The Conference Regions hold the same contest and the winners will compete at Short Course.

On December 14, 2017, the Southeast Section held their contest.  Wastewater Treatment Plant effluent samples from the City of Kenner, the City of Harahan, and from the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans were judged.  The City of Harahan’s Wastewater Treatment Plant won the Wastewater Beauty Award.

On March 20, 2018, the City of Harahan competed against other regional winners at Short Course.  The City came in a close second place, losing by only one point, to the City of Winnsboro.
